In case you missed our instagram posts over the past few weeks, we have been promoting the Jenkins' Log Raw Tapes. Brainchild of local documentarian Jason Jenkins, these short edits provide a unique window into skateboarding in the Greater Boston area between 2004-2010. As skateboard nerds, we wanted to take the opportunity to promote these clips so that the younger generation of New England skateboarders can learn about their rich history. Each edit is organized geographically around a specific neighborhood or spot. This is done intentionally to underscore the impact of certain spots in the city. Naturally you have Copley Square, AQ, The Navy Yard, and Eggs commanding episodes of their own. What we love most about these edits is that, while there are some skaters featured that you may have never heard of or seen before since this was 15+ years ago, many of these guys are still skating the city to this day. This series shows us that we stand on the shoulders of giants as Boston skateboarders, however many of these giants still skate among us downtown. Salute the street soldiers!
Volume 1: AQ
"For the first volume of this series, there's only one spot that made sense to feature - AQ. From the flatground to the manny pad to the ledges to the pillars, this spot has endless lines and we spent the better part of a decade skating here more than any other spot. Enjoy some iconic Boston raw footage."
Volume 2: Financial
"For the second volume of this series, we're revisiting the golden era of Boston's Financial District, including Windows, Downhill, Bank Boston and more."
Volume 3: Downtown
"For the third volume of this series, we're hitting up downtown Boston - the then-newly finished Greenway, North End, Security Ledges (RIP), Downhill Manny (RIP) and more. Tons of great footage in this one!"
Volume 4: Navy Yard & Charlestown
"For the fourth volume of this series, it's all about Navy Yard in Charlestown. With a direct ferry service between here and Aquarium, plus one of the most unique layouts of ledges, steps and gaps I've ever seen, we were always down for a nice afternoon sesh here. And lucky for you all, everyone was pretty productive during those sessions."
Volume 5: Copley & Fenway
"For the fifth volume of the series, we're spitting between Copley Square and the general Fenway area. Copley was a very popular spot for a generation before us and became one again after, but for us, it was more of a meet-up spot and hang-out than somewhere we'd film. But with the Yellow Barrier and Landmark Banks (RIP) closeby, it was still an area of the city that we ended up with some clips from."
Volume 6: Southie
"For the sixth volume of raw tapes, we're leaving the city and headed to Southie. Before the Seaport became the Seaport, we used to venture away from AQ once in a blue moon and head South Boston. We'd hit the Southie Bump, Planets, and more - the area had tons of great spots. Many fun times had filming these tricks!"
Volume 7: Worcester & Providence
"For the seventh volume, we're leaving Boston and headed to places where the beer flows like wine, where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano - I'm talking about Worcester and Providence. Every once in awhile, we'd all pile into Ray Echevers' car (endearingly nicknamed The Gecko) and go skate spots that were new to us with Keegs. These are the results of a few such weekends."
Volume 8: Cambridge
For the eighth volume, Cambridge is the neighborhood. We got Harvard, MIT, Rindge & Latin, Polaroid Ledge and more. This one took a village to put together, filmed by a Murderer's Row of Boston skate filmmakers from this era. Filmed by: Jason Jenkins, Ray Echevers, Zander Taketomo & CN
Volume 9: Eggs
"Volume 9 takes place at the world-famous Nashua Street Park, more commonly known as just "Eggs." I remember the first time I rolled up here after hearing whispers about a new ledge heaven - only a few of the ledges were unknobbed but it was obvious how much potential this spot had. Fast forward almost 20 years and Eggs has become the birthplace for an entire generation of Boston tech skateboarders... Here is a glimpse at some of the footage captured here from 2006 - 2010. Filmed by: Jason Jenkins & Ray Echevers"
